Core Philosophy
This workshop immerses us in Maasai culture through the gateway of the Anuang’a undulation technique, a practice of body undulation linked to rhythmic breath and voice. We move to reconnect with our own body, with the ancient wisdom of the Maasai people, and with the landscape of Kenya itself.
The Three Pillars of the Retreat

1. DANCE:
   The Anuang’a Undulation Technique & Afro-Contemporary Expression
   Daily Morning Practice: Maasai undulation movements and rhythmic breathing. These are somatic explorations, not performances. No prior dance experience is needed—only your willingness to feel and sound.
   A Sample Day at the Retreat
   Morning (9am – Noon): Anuang’a Technique Workshop (Undulation, Breath-Voice Connection, Maasai Movement Vocabulary)
   Late Afternoon (4pm–5pm): Eng’udi Dance (dancing with Maasai stick) & Improvisation Session
   Workshop Curriculum:
   The Wave: Learn the foundational, wave-like body undulation characteristic of Maasai dance, discovering its source and its release through the spine.
   Breath as Rhythm: Transform the simple act of inhalation and exhalation into a musical force. Experience how rhythmic breathing initiates movement.
   Connecting Earth & Sky: Practice the famous Maasai jumps, understanding them not just as physical feats but as spiritual connectors between the terrestrial and the celestial.
   The Art of Improvisation: Explore free-form movement.
2. SAFARI:
   Game drive in the plain of Maasai Mara
   A guided walk in the surrounding nature.
   Climb local hills to learn about the medicinal plants of the Maasai land.
3. Community Connection:
   Visit the local market to discover its treasures and connect with the community.
